Daintree Self-Drive Itineraries
Focus on Daintree River and Daintree Village
Stay at one of the accommodation houses located close to the Daintree River. We recommend that you spend some time taking a cruise on the Daintree River, explore the quaint Daintree Village, and the picturesque upper Daintree area, and take a day to visit Cape Tribulation and the Daintree coast. Take the opportunity to join a paddle adventure across to Snapper Island from Cape Kimberley or go drift snorkeling on the Mossman River.
Focus on Cow Bay
If you are looking for a low key holiday, away from the madding crowds, Cow Bay and Thornton Beach are perfect. Stay with the locals or book a holiday house and spend some time exploring Thornton Beach, Cooper Creek and the Cow Bay Beaches and walking around the headlands. Take the opportunity to sample the local fruit ice-creams. Visit the Daintree Discovery Centre to learn about the rainforest. Do the Jindalba boardwalk. Paddle along the coastline to Shipwreck Bay and camp overnight on Snapper Island.
Focus on Cape Tribulation
Stay at one of the B&Bs or resorts, in Cape Tribulation, and spend a day exploring the local area on foot, walking along the remote beaches to experience the place where the rainforest meets the reef. Join a 4 WD tour, or take your own 4 WD vehicle, for a half day visit to Cowie Beach, Emmagen Creek and the Bloomfield Falls. Visit the Great Barrier Reef for a half day snorkeling trip or a full day diving. Make sure you allow some time to learn about the rainforest: visit the Bat House, join a guided tour, and do the boardwalks. If you are fit, climb Mt Sorrow to the look-out.
