Explore From Thornton Beach

3 Day Reef and Rainforest

  • Day 1: On your way to Thornton Beach, stop off for a crocodile cruise on the Daintree River, with Bruce Belchers Daintree River Cruises. Arrive at Thornton Beach House/Bungalows, take a stroll across the road and explore Thornton Beach. Drive to Cape Trib to join a Jungle Surfing/Night Walk Combo. Visit the Bat House and eyeball a bat, then meet at the Mason's Cafe for a 3.30pm Jungle Surf, returning at 5.30pm, followed by dinner at Ferntree. Join the Jungle Adventures Night Walk, meet at PK’s reception at 7.30pm, returning at 10pm.
  • Day 2: Join Ocean Safari tour to the Great Barrier Reef and do a dive, or join Ocean Safari for a half day snorkeling adventure on the reef.
  • Day 3: On your way home join a guided rainforest walk with Crocodylus Village at 9.30am


6 Day Action Packed Reef, Rainforest & 4WD'ing with a Touch of Pampering

  • Day 1: On your way to Thornton Beach, stop off at the Daintree Discovery Centre for an educational insight into this special area. This is also a nice spot for a light lunch. Buy a tropical fruit ice cream made from local ingredients, at one of the local ice cream factories. Check in at Thornton Beach House/Bungalows. Join the Exotic Fruit Tasting at 2pm including a tour of the orchard, finishing at 4pm. Join the Guided Night Walk with Jungle Adventures. Meet at PK’s Jungle Village at 7.30pm
  • Day 2: Start your day kayaking around the magnificent Cape Tribulation headland, or for the early birds, Crocodylus Village has a sunrise paddle trek with a tropical breakfast and snorkelling equipment provided. Have lunch at Mason’s Cafe. Join the horse riding, where you can ride your horse on the beach and through the rainforest. Meet at PK’s Jungle Village at 1.00pm, returning at 4.30pm.
  • Day 3: Join Jungle Surfing at 8.45am. Meet at the Mason's Cafe. Return around 11am. Have lunch at Mason’s Cafe. For Ocean Safari – meet at Jungle Lodge at 12.15 for a ½ day trip to the Great Barrier Reef, returning at 4.30pm.
  • Day 4: Venture a bit further afield with a full day Cooktown tour, a ½ day Waterfall tour or a full day Home Rule tour with Mason’s 4WD tours. Transfers from Thornton Beach House/Bungalows, or meet at Masons Shop at 7.30am.
  • Day 5: Treat yourself to a massage at Heritage Lodge Spa. Take a walk on one of the many boardwalks, try to find a cassowary! Visit the Bat House and eyeball a bat.
  • Day 6: On the way home join a crocodile cruise on Cooper Creek or on the Daintree River with Bruce Belcher’s Daintree River Cruise.


14 Day See Everything (Almost!)

  • Day 1: Stop and buy a homemade ice cream, at one of the local icecream factories. Visit the local insect museum for the biggest insect collection in Australia. Arrive at Thornton Beach House/Bungalows. Take a stroll on the beach, walk up to the Bouncing Stones, throw them and watch them bounce!! Join a crocodile cruise on Cooper Creek at 2pm or 3pm
  • Day 2: Choose one of the morning Jungle Surfing tours at 8.45am, 9.45am or 10.45am. Visit The Bat House and eyeball a bat. Then take a picnic lunch to Emmagen Creek, Cape Trib Beach or Dubuji.
  • Day 3: Ocean Safari ½ day reef tour. Meet at Jungle Lodge Reception at 8.15am, returning at 12.30. Grab a quick bite to eat at Mason’s Takeaway, then go horse riding. Meet at PK’s Jungle Village at 1pm, returning at 4.30pm
  • Day 4: Take a hike up Mt Sorrow for spectacular views over Cape Tribulation and out to the reef. Allow approx 6 hours return. Have a look at the Easter Island Moai on the way back, located at Rainforest Hideaway on Camelot Close, signposted from the main road in Cape Tribulation.
  • Day 5: Start your day kayaking around the magnificent Cape Tribulation headland with Cape Trib Sea Kayaks, or for the early birds, Crocodylus Village has a sunrise paddle trek with a tropical breakfast and snorkelling equipment provided. Visit the Daintree Discovery Centre for an educational insight into this primitive rainforest. Visit Jindalba Boardwalk for some cassowary spotting
  • Day 6: A day to chill out. Enjoy the beaches – build sandcastles. Have a swim at the fresh water swimming holes. Catch up on your reading. Have a nanna nap!
  • Day 7: Join the Exotic Fruit Tasting, 2pm to 4pm including a tour of the orchard. Join the Jungle Adventures Night Walk - meet at PK’s Jungle Village at 7.30pm, returning at 10pm.
  • Day 8: Take an early morning birdwatching cruise on the Daintree River, or join a sunset cruise with Dan Irby and go spotlighting on the Daintree River at night, looking for wildlife. Hire a boat and go fishing on the Daintree River. All tackle and a map of where they’re biting provided. Alternatively, hire your own fishing guide who can take you to the fish.
  • Day 9: Venture a bit further afield with a full day Cooktown tour, a ½ day Waterfall tour or a full day Home Rule tour with Masons 4WD tours. Transfers from Thornton Beach House/Bungalows at 7.15am, or meet at Masons Shop at 7.30am.
  • Day 10: Give yourself another day of rest!
  • Day 11 & 12: Join the 2 day sea kayaking tour to Snapper Island. Meet at Crocodylus Village at 7am for an all inclusive tour to this wonderful national park island. Return to Crocodylus at 4pm the following day.
  • Day 13: Treat yourself to a massage at Heritage Lodge Spa
  • Day 14: On your way home join a guided rainforest walk with Crocodylus Village at 9.30am
