Adventure
Are you looking for excitement and participation in a thrilling experience? Search at dusk for that elusive crocodile by spotlight; climb high into the rainforest canopy for a bird’s eye view; glide through the forest on a cable; drift with the currents on a river snorkel; take an exhilarating ride to snorkel on a pristine coral cay; paddle along the rainforest coastline to a remote tropical island; step into the pitch black forest and be surrounded by a cacophony of rainforest noises, as the forest stirs; drive the famous 4WD Bloomfield Track.
Birdwatching
As one of Australia's premier birdwatching locations you have a range of options. Join an early morning cruise on the Daintree River for the dawn chorus. This small region has 12 species which are found only in the Wet Tropics. Some birds migrate to the area from New Guinea in summer to breed. These include the Buff-breasted Paradise-Kingfisher, and Pied Imperial-Pigeon, which arrive in large flocks. North of the Daintree River cassowary habitats can be found in the Cow Bay, Cooper Creek, and Cape Tribulation area.
Walking and hiking
There are four short walks in the Daintree National Park ranging from 400m to 1200m. Explore the lowland tropical rainforest swamps by boardwalk, and enjoy mangrove communities without getting muddy feet. Climb to the Mount Sorrow Lookout - a steep and difficult trail where walkers need to be fit, self-reliant and well-prepared. Take a walk with a rainforest guide and see interesting things that other people miss. Guided walks are available throughout the Daintree area.
Foodies
Discover the taste sensations of fresh exotic tropical fruit, grown locally, and eaten fresh from the tree. Tropical fruit can have spikes, lumps and bumps, and amazing flavours like crème caramel and chocolate pudding. Tropical fruit platters for breakfast, home-made tropical fruit ice-creams, and restaurant desserts – the Daintree is a fruit hotspot.
Rest and relaxation
Do you feel like doing nothing much? The Daintree is the place to escape the stresses of everyday life and experience the tranquility of the rainforest. There are no pressures and no formalities. Lack of mobile phone coverage on the Daintree Coast ensures no interference from the outside world. Spend your days sun-baking or walking on the remote beaches, and enjoy yoga, massage or a spa to rejuvenate your spirit.
Nature
The natural unspoiled environment provides amazing opportunities to explore the river, reef, rainforest and coastal ecosystems, and to view animals and plants in their natural habitat. You have a more rewarding experience if you go with a local guide who understands the natural rhythms of the forest. A guide will be able to show you more wildlife than you could ever hope to see on your own.
Family
Keeping children amused can be easy in the Daintree. Many of the adventure activities are suitable for children. The boardwalks are very child friendly. The Daintree Discovery Centre provides interactive activities aimed at children. The beaches provide endless hours of amusement for beach combing, exploring, swimming, and sand play. A cruise on the river allows children to get a close look at crocodiles, snakes, and other wildlife. Many tours offer a family rate.
